The Department of Animal Nutrition, under the Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), is actively engaged in teaching, research, student training and extension activities in the field of animal and poultry nutrition.
The Department contributes to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education and provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical training in animal nutrition, feed technology, ration formulation, feed evaluation and nutritional management of livestock, poultry, companion animals and other animal species.
Research activities of the Department are directed towards improving animal productivity, health, feed efficiency and economic returns through balanced nutrition and efficient utilization of available feed resources. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainable feeding strategies, alternative feed resources, functional feed additives, gut health and reduction of dependence on antibiotic growth promoters.
The Department also contributes to the broader mandate of WBUAFS in conducting need-based research and disseminating improved livestock production technologies to farmers and other stakeholders.
