Orientation Programme on Entrepreneurship Development & Start Up at Mohanpur Campus, Nadia

In a significant initiative to promote entrepreneurial thinking and self-employment among future veterinary professionals, the Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (F/O-VAS), West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Mohanpur, Nadia, organized an Orientation Programme on “Entrepreneurship Development & Start Up: Innovation, Motivation & Empowerment for Self-Reliant Future” for the 3rd and 4th Year B.V.Sc. & A.H. students on 21 August 2026, coinciding with the observance of World Entrepreneurs’ Day 2026. The programme was held at the newly inaugurated Chintan Kaksha (Seminar Hall) of the Mohanpur Campus under the leadership of Prof. Sukanta Biswas, Organizing Secretary of the event, Dept. of Vety. Extn. Edun, WBUAFS.

The programme commenced with the inauguration of the Chintan Kaksha by Shri Rajesh Mahata, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Dept. of Animal Resources Development, Govt. of West Bengal, in the august presence of Dr. Kalyan Chakraborti, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Dept. of IT & Electronics, Science & Technology & Biotechnology, & FPI & Horticulture, Govt. of West Bengal; Shri Ritesh Tiwari, Hon’ble MLA, Kossipur-Belgachia Constituency; Shri Ashim Kumar Sarkar, Hon’ble MLA, Harighata Constituency; Dr. Tirtha Kumar Datta, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, WBUAFS, Dr. P. Das, Rgistrar, Dr. S. Batabyal, DREF, Dr. N. Ghosh, Dean, F/O-VAS, Dr. S. Biswas, Dept. of VAHEE, WBUAFS, Prof. M. Roy, in presence of Senior Officers, all HODs of F/O-VAS, Teachers & Students of the University. The inaugural session featured felicitation of dignitaries, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, welcome address by Prof. Partha Das, Registrar, WBUAFS, and inspiring addresses by the distinguished guests emphasizing innovation, technology-driven entrepreneurship, youth empowerment and employment generation in the livestock, Dairy and allied sectors. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of nurturing entrepreneurial competencies among veterinary graduates for building a self-reliant India.

The afternoon technical session brought together eminent professionals, startup leaders and successful entrepreneurs. Dr. Asitava Sur, Former Chief Executive, Metro Dairy Limited, discussed the prospects and relevance of entrepreneurship and startup ventures for emerging entrepreneurs. Dr. Sonali Roy, CEO, RISE, IISER Kolkata, elaborated on incubation and startup opportunities in the science and technology sector, while Sri Madan Maity, General Secretary, West Bengal Poultry Federation, shared insights on poultry-based entrepreneurship in W.B.

The programme also showcased inspiring success stories from grassroots entrepreneurs and students. Mr. Pran K. Ghosh, Dairy entrepreneur, Mr. Kalyan Koley, Goat entrepreneur Mr. J. Hassan, animal feed entrepreneur and Dr. Sahasra Sekh and Sri Nitya Halder as student entrepreneurs shared their experiences, challenges and achievements, motivating students to explore enterprise development opportunities in the veterinary and animal husbandry sectors.

The programme concluded with remarks from the organizers and academic leaders of WBUAFS, reaffirming the University’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and startup culture among veterinary students and empowering them to become job creators rather than job seekers
