Departmental profile
This Department came into existence in the year 2000 and since inception this Department is catering academic activities among U.G., P.G. and Ph.D. students. Apart from academic activities, this Department successfully ran some ICAR and Private Projects, outcome of which are really supportive to the modern day livestock and poultry practices. This Department has developed two unique vaccines against Newcastle disease and pigeon paramyxovirus infection which will help a lot to the farmers in near future.

- Efficacy of a combination of Banyan and Bankurchi plant against diarrhoea and dysentery in goat was evaluated and their uses were recommended.
- Some specific herbal preparations against some specific disease conditions in poultry birds were evaluated and recommended for their application in poultry birds also.
- A vitamin mineral supplement can be used in cows at the stage of advanced pregnancy.
- Canine babesiosis and canine ehrlichiosis, both the tick borne diseases are now become very much prevalent in and around Kolkata. A few sero-positive cases have been found in Johne’s disease also. CPV2 was isolated from canine population in and around Kolkata and subsequently it was characterised also at molecular level.
