• Introduction

    Red Ribbon Club is a movement started by the Government of India in schools and colleges through which, students will spread awareness over HIV / AIDS. It envisages to develop charity mind among all the students to extend their able help towards developing healthy life styles, donating blood to all the needy by promotion of Regular voluntary blood donation.

    Red Ribbon Club was inaugurated in March, 2021 for conducting Red Ribbon Club activities through NSS in ten units in WBUAFS. WBSAP&CS, a branch of Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, is the nodal organization in the state to coordinate all kinds of responses related to HIV and AIDS prevention and control, under the purview of WBSAP&CS, there are several divisions which look after all the three modes of prevention of HIV and AIDS.

  • Activities

    • AIDS Prevention & Control Programme on 13th March, 2021:

    By the able leadership of Prof. S. Batabayal, DSW & NSS Programme Co-ordinator of the university Red Ribbon Club NSS Unit, WBUAFS organised one day virtual seminar over “AIDS Prevention & Control” on 13th March, 2021. Prof. C. Guha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the university was present in the programme as a chief Guest. Dr. S. Chandra, Registrar, WBUAFS and graced the occasion as special guest. Prof. T. K. Maity, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology was also present as Guest of Honour. The all the NSS volunteers, teachers, officers, students and staffs of the university joined the seminar enthusiastically.

    Dr. Biplabendu Talukdar (Programme Officer, State Blood Cell, W.B. State AIDS Prevention & Control Society) and Mr. Agnimeel Das (Youth Officer, NSS Regional Directorate, Govt. of India) were present as an eminent speaker in the said seminar. Dr. Talukder enlighted about causes and prevention measures of different Sexually Transmitted Diseases. The fruitful interactive session encouraged and motivated the NSS volunteers to increase awareness camp and to organise blood donation camp throughout the state.

    • Celebration of World Yoga Day on 21st June, 2021:

    Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word yoga’ derived from Sanskrit that means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. The union referred to is that of the individual self-uniting with Cosmic Consciousness or the Universal Spirit. Yoga is believed to have evolved during the period of the ‘Sat Yuga’, also called the Golden age. It was not until the discovery of the Indus- valley civilization, the largest civilization: that the knowledge about the origin of Yoga surfaced. Recognizing its Universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21st June as the “International Day of Yoga”. Since 2015 onwards 21th June is celebrated as International Day of Yoga throughout the world.
    Like every year, this year also WBUAFS observed International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2021 with enthusiasm in association with NSS unit of the University by virtual mode. All the NSS volunteers, teachers, students of the university joined the webinar and live yoga session by the able leadership of Prof. S. Batabayal, DSW and NSS programme Co-ordinator, WBUAFS. In his welcome address, he said physical fitness should always be a priority for all and yoga is the best way to keep oneself physically and psychologically strong especially in the present challenging situation. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Guha was present in the programme as a Chief Guest. Dr. B. P. Mohanty, ADG (Inland Fishery), ICAR glorified the programme as a Special Guest. Dr. Sukhen Biswas, NSS programme Co-ordinator, University of Kalyani; Registrar of the university Dr. C. Chandra; Director of Rsearch, Extension & Farms and Dean, F/o F.Sc., Prof. B. K. Das; Dean, F/o VAS, Prof. N. Ghosh and Dean, F/o DT Prof. T. K. Maity graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Prof. S. K. Rout, Head, Dept of AEM delivered a long session about different forms of Yoga and Pranayam and guided the wright way to practice them.
    The NSS Unit, WBUAFS also conducted following competitions to spread awareness and positive vibe about Yoga on our health.

  • Awareness Competition

    The WBUAFS Red Ribbon Club was also organised various online competition on “Reb ribbon club activities” a) Painting b) Poster c) Slogan d) Short film making from 15th to 19th March, 2021. On 20th March the result was announced and winners were awarded by certificate and prize money.
