• Departmental profile

    The genesis of the Department of Dairy Chemistry lies with the introduction of a four year degree course named B.Sc(DT) in the year 1977 in the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya under the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences . After a decade of development and growth of institutional facilities, Post Graduate courses including Ph.D. programme were started in the Department of Dairy Chemistry with the approval of the ICAR in the year 1988. The Dairy Technology unit with the four departments was upgraded to the level of a separate faculty named “The Faculty of Dairy Technology” under the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences in the year of 1995.

    The department currently offers the following academic programme namely M.Tech in Dairy Chemistry and Ph.D in Dairy Chemistry apart from catering the courses of Dairy Chemistry in the B.Tech(Dairy Technology) programme. The department presently is focussing its research activity on the formulation and development of antioxidant rich milk and milk products. It also developed novel techniques of milk preservation and formulated different whey based beverages.
